Crop damage assessed in three village panchayats

Farmers plead for adequate compensation

TIRUCHI: Collector Ashish Vachhani inspected flood-affected areas in the three village panchayats of Vengur, Natarajapuram and Arasangudi on Monday.

He was accompanied by District Revenue Officer A. Nambirajan and revenue and officials of the Public Works Department.

The Collector and other officials visited the fields and assessed the crop damage.

Village panchayat presidents, Saroja Murugesan (Vengur), V. Sabarathinam (Natarajapuram) and A.N. Swaminathan (Arasangudi), appraised the officials on the loss suffered by farmers and the general public.

Mr. Sabarathinam said standing paddy crop on about 6,000 acres of land was totally damaged in the incessant rainfall.

The farmers were making arrangements for harvesting the paddy in about 10 days and spent about Rs.8,000 on each acre.

The panchayat presidents pleaded with the Collector to sanction adequate compensation for the crop loss.
