After attending the function, the Minister left the place and the Collector, District Revenue Officer and other officials from Udhagamandalam held discussion in the village till evening.

Around 5 p.m., the Collector with his family proceeded to Udhagamandalam in his official car. The DRO, Alagarsamy, followed them in another car.

Forest village

Around 5.45 p.m., the convoy reached Karachikorai forest village within Bhavanisagar Forest Range in Erode district. The driver of the Collector's car noticed a big tusker, suspected to be a rogue elephant, standing on the middle of the road. The driver stopped the car and tried to reverse the vehicle.

Herd crosses road

Then, he saw a herd of elephants crossing the road. The driver switched off the car and waited for half an hour. Around 6.15 p.m., the rogue elephant started moving and the driver drove past the elephant.

On seeing the car going fast, the elephant started chasing it, but stopped after a point.
