Coast Guard releases vessel after inspection

TUTICORIN: The Singapore vessel which was detained by the Coast Guard on Friday, was released on Saturday as law-enforcing agencies did not find anything suspicious on board.

The vessel was thoroughly inspected by the Joint Interrogation team comprising personnel from the departments of Customs, Immigration, Coastal Security Group, Intelligence Bureau, local police, Naval Intelligence Unit and Coast Guard on Saturday.

Nothing suspicious was found, said a joint report. Commandant Udhal Singh, Commanding Officer, Coast Guard Station, Tuticorin, stressed the need for coordination between Tirunelveli coastal police and Coast Guard.

Later, Mr. Udhal Singh said the ship was released following clearance from the Coast Guard higher authorities on Saturday evening.
