Cleanliness drive inaugurated

TIRUCHI: The NCC cadets of 4 (Tamil Nadu) Girls Battalion NCC, Tiruchi, as part of the Community Development Programme, participated in a day-long cleanliness drive in Senjeri village in Perambalur district recently.

The camp was inaugurated by Lt. Col. Sanjay Anand, Commanding Officer, 4 (TN) Girls Bn NCC.

NCC cadets of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, Holy Cross College, Shrimati Indira Gandhi College and Cauvery College, cleaned the roads and other streets in the village.

They also educated the villagers on AIDS, evils of consumption of liquor and tobacco, dowry menace and importance of higher education, etc.

Lt. Rehana Parvin, Administrative Officer of the unit, delivered special lectures on the above topics. She also underlined the importance of protecting the girl children and the need to create awareness among the local people of the need to save the female foetus.

Ravichandran, president of the village panchayat, and the villagers commended the NCC cadets for their service.
