City lensman bags prestigious award

R. Senthil Kumaran

MADURAI: R. Senthil Kumaran, a city-based photographer, has won the Geographical Photographer of the Year 2007 award constituted by the Royal Geographical Society, London.

A panoramic view of saris drying on the banks of the Ganges made him the winner in the ‘travel’ category. Besides, it was chosen as the best among all the five categories, including culture, nature, landscape and wildlife. It was one among over 1,000 entries from all over the world.

The victory has got Mr. Kumaran a 12-day, all inclusive safari in Zambia for two persons. The award-winning photograph would find a place in an exhibition of winning entries at the Royal Geographical Society, London, from March 3 to 7, he said.

This is his second international award for him in the last two years. Recently, he was in Beijing, China, to receive the second prize in the Humanity Photo Awards. The contest was organised by UNESCO and China Folklore Association.
