ERODE: Powerloom weavers’ strike in Chennimalai has come to an end. With a settlement reached on wage hike and bonus on late Sunday evening, the weavers returned to their looms on Monday morning.

The weavers earlier struck work demanding a wage hike of 7.5 per cent, and bonus percentages of 8.15, 8.20 and 8.25 for the next three years.

The strike resulted in over 5,000 looms remaining silent. At the Sunday night’s talks, the powerloom owners and weavers agreed to a one-time wage hike of 7.5 per cent and bonus of 8.15 per cent for the next year and 8.33 per cent for the next two years thereafter.

Representatives of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), however, said they did not agree to the bonus percentage of 8.33 for the two years and one-time settlement of wage hike.
