Kamarajar Salai sports new look

CHENNAI: Moving away from traditional decorations, this year’s Republic Day décor on Kamarajar Salai takes a new look. There are little tents in pink, blue and white for dignitaries and public viewing the parade.

Normally, there would just be a regular pandal of blue cloth lining the entire stretch with a special white pandal for the VVIP stand. But this time, the Public Works Department has decided to go in for a new look.

A wooden floor made in different levels has come in place of the usual red mat. “This would help visitors in the back to view the parade without having to get up,” said one of the workers . Work has been going on for over two weeks now and workers of the contracting company are working overtime to complete the task.

The statue of Mahatma Gandhi has been given a fresh coat of black paint .

The area is being spruced up by the Chennai Corporation .

It is painting the paving blocks black and white and laying cement alongside the tar road.
