Case shifted to CB-CID

MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has transferred the investigation into the death of cooperative society employee from the Uthamapalayam police in Theni district to the Crime Branch-CID.

Allowing a petition filed by the mother of the deceased, Justice G. Rajasuria ordered the transfer as there were sufficient materials to suspect that the victim could have been murdered. He pointed out that despite a specific complaint lodged by the petitioner, the Uthamapalayam police had chosen to file a case only under Section 174 (death under suspicious circumstances) of the Indian Penal Code.

The petitioner, N. Petchiammal of Paramathevanpatti village, said that her son N. Gandhi alias Alagusekar had supported one of the contestants in the village panchayat elections held recently. Hence, she alleged that the supporters of the other contestant could have done away with her son.
