Calibration of glide path over at Tiruchi airport

It will facilitate for commissioning of extended runway

TIRUCHI: Calibration of the glide path of the Tiruchi airport was completed on Saturday.

A special aircraft from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) carried out the calibration of the Instrument Landing System (ILS), which was relocated following the extension of the runway, on Friday and Saturday. The completion of the process will pave the way for commissioning of the extended runway and introduction of more services to the city. A similar exercise carried out last year had identified a few obstacles. The AAI team will submit a report to the headquarters soon, after which the landing procedure for the airport would be notified.

Indications are that all the required clearances, including those from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, would be obtained by March-end. Several air operators, including the Air India Express were keenly awaiting the calibration of the ILS for introduction of services. Air India Express was planning to commence operations from Tiruchi by end of March.
