KRISHNAGIRI: Communist Party of India (Marxist) cadres demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the murder of party activist in Pallipalayam, Namakkal district.

Over 50 members staged a demonstration in front of the taluk office in Krishnagiri on Monday urging the government to immediately arrest those behind the murder of party activist Velusamy, who was in the forefront in bringing out the sex scandal involving a group in Nammakkal which videographed the rape of a girl and later sold it to an internet site. It was alleged that the gang, which collected huge interest for the loan, allegedly raped the girl and sold the tape to an internet site.

The leaders, who participated in the demonstration, said if the police had acted in the first case and arrested the culprits, the murder could have been averted. Lethargy of the police officials cost the life of an activist.

D. Ravindran, district secretary, said the government should act fast against those money lenders who were collecting exorbitant rate of interest for the loan taken by the poor people. It should extend immediate relief to the girl who was allegedly raped by the gang.

K. Michael Raj, district central committee member and R.C. Madhalingam, taluk committee member, led the demonstration.

District executive committee members M. Dharman and Irudayaraj among others participated.
