SALEM: Communist Party of India (CPI) councillor A. Ramani and 11 others were seriously injured when two groups clashed at a temple festival here on Friday night. While Mr. Ramani was admitted to a private nursing home, others were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital.
The police said there was enmity relating to Corporation polls between former councillor P. Murugan (DMK) and Mr. Ramani, who represents the 59th ward of the Salem Corporation. When the temple festival was on, an altercation took place between them, which degenerated into a free for all. Police brought the situation under control. — Special Correspondent
