PALANI: Pandemonium prevailed in municipal council meeting held here on Wednesday as DMK councillors protested over the distribution of notices that praised the CPI(M) party for bringing the new bus stand project to the temple town by its cadres.

DMK councillors, led by vice-chairman Hakim, shouted in the hall about the autocratic behaviour of the Chairman T. Rajamanickam. They questioned how the Chairman alone attempted to take away the credit for bringing the new bus stand to Palani. Members of both the parties exchanged words and chaos prevailed in the meeting hall for a long time. After heated argument, one of the councillors snatched the mike from the Chairman demanding reply to their questions. Meanwhile, a group of councillors threw chairs against each other. Later, the Chairman adjourned the meeting and left the hall.

In a fit of anger, the AIADMK and CPI(M) councillors picketed Dharapuram main road near Palani bus stand condemning the attitude of the Congress and the DMK councillors. The picketers were arrested and released in the afternoon.Meanwhile, the DMK and Congress councillors staged a demonstration before the Palani Municipality condemning the arrogant and domineering actions of the Chairman and the CPI(M) councillors.
