Udhagamandalam: Unmindful of the physical discomfort caused to them many students including girls of the Breeks Memorial School here have taken up the task of ridding an important part of this hill station of wild growth. The wild bushes which had come up near the Public Distribution System (PDS) outlet of the Nilgiri Cooperative Enterprise located close to the school in the heart of the town had for several decades been not only an eye sore but also a serious health hazard.

Fair price shop

Many of those coming to the fair price shop or crossing over from Lord Wenlock Road to Charing Cross had been using the area as a public convenience. The students along with their teachers started clearing the area on Saturday. Stating that they will remove all the wild growth, the headmaster, N. Raman, told The Hindu here on Saturday that the objective was to enhance awareness about the need to keep the surroundings clean and also promote dignity of labour.

Pointing out that it was one of the ugliest and most misused parts of the town, observers commended the service-minded outlook of the students.

Vacation destination
