To administer polio drops to 1.08 lakh children

MADURAI: Madurai Corporation has set up 252 booths in the city for the second phase of pulse polio immunisation programme on Sunday.

A total of 1.08 lakh children, up to the age of five years, will be administered oral polio vaccine.

A total of 1,120 health workers will be involved in the daylong immunisation drive.

The Corporation Commissioner, D.J. Dinakkaren, has urged the parents to give the polio drops to their children without fail.

The Madurai Division of Southern Railway has also made arrangements for administering polio drops to children in trains, stations and railway colonies.

Pulse polio booths will be operated at Southern Railway Women's Welfare Association Matriculation School, Railway Hospital and Railway Colony here.

Two booths will function at the railway junction here in association with the Madurai Corporation for the benefit of children travelling by trains.

Polio booths will also be operated at all railway health units and railway stations in Dindigul, Palani, Pollachi, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Shencottah, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Rameswaram, Manamadurai and Karaikudi. Fifteen mobile teams will cover railway quarters along the wayside stations in motor trolleys and vehicles. According to a Southern Railway press release, railway doctors, paramedical staff, Bharat Scouts and Guides will be involved in the exercise.
