BSNL launches 3G services in Tuticorin

Tuticorin: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Tuticorin, has launched 3G mobile services for its customers. In Tuticorin district 32 towers have been erected to provide 3G services. As of now, twenty cellular towers are radiating 3G signals here.

With the advent of modern technology, a bundle of services would be provided through 3G. Similar services were made operational in Coimbatore. Customers in Nagercoil, Conoor, Erode, Tirupur, Namakkal, Tirunelveli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, Ooty, Kodaikanal and Kanyakumari were also enjoying this service. A sum of Rs. 1000 crore was earmarked for the scheme.

The work was in progress for 4 lakh connections in Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of Rs. 130 crore. With the existing capacity, as many as 8, 500 customers in Tuticorin could be covered under this scheme. The customers could avail facilities like video calling, mobile television along with high speed mobile broadband services. With the help of 3G services, customers would be able to communicate with one another face to face, K. Balasubramanian, General Manager, BSNL Tuticorin, said here on Wednesday while addressing the media.

Television channels could also be availed under the scheme and the customers interested could watch it while on the move. They could watch select channels for the required period. As the introductory promotional offer, 3G customers could avail video and voice calling facilities for a period of six months at the rate of 30 paise per minute. The customers could make use of this opportunity up to April, 22, 2010.

The existing customers with 2G services on conversion to 3G could avail this promotional tariff by adding a special tariff voucher for Rs. 98.

The services from 2G to 3G could be migrated by sending SMS.

The prepaid customers with 2G services should send an SMS – “M3G120” to 53733. As far as postpaid customers were concerned, they need to SMS – “M3G25” to 53733. The 3G SIM cards in various plans were available at BSNL customer service centres of Tuticorin.

Moreover facilities had been arranged for the people at 3G experience centre at customer service centre at the General Manager's office here for a free demonstration on its functions. He said that the BSNL 3G data card has facilitated the customers to enjoy high speed mobile broadband service on a laptop with a maximum speed upto 3.6 Mbps. Besides, video conferencing facility up to 10 persons, music and movie downloads and online games were in the pipeline.

The people could contact toll free numbers 12728 during office hours and 1503 at any time for getting necessary details.
