Award for Malayalam writer

NAMAKKAL: The Ku. Chinnappa Bharathi Award was presented to the veteran Malayalam writer and literary critic P. Govindapillai here on Friday.

The Ku. Chinnappa Bharathi Trust president P. Selvaraj presented the award to Mr. Govindapillai at a function organised jointly by the trust and the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers’ Association. Mr. Govindapillai, in his acceptance speech, thanked the trust members and called upon the writers and people in Tamil Nadu to protect the rich heritage of Tamil language.

Literary works

He highlighted the literary works of the veteran Tamil writer Chinnappa Bharathi and his important contributions to Tamil literature.

Mr. Govindapillai said that Mr. Bharathi is known for the depth of his novels based on the class struggle.

The writer lived as a farmer and experienced the struggles of the farm workers.

He visited West Bengal to see the struggles of workers in coalmines and wrote the novel, ‘Surangam’.
