Appeal to run Sendur Express on main line

Thanjavur-Tiruchi Rail Users' Association has appealed to Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee to continue to run the Chennai-Thiruchendur express on the main line.

The train is operated on the main line from Chennai to Thiruchendur from August 1. Meanwhile, eleven MPs representing constituencies in southern districts submitted a memorandum to Mamata Banerjee recently to operate the Sendur express on Chord line. “This is unfortunate and their action needs to be condemned,” the association president Ayyanavaram K.Nadarajan, vice-president D. Balu and legal adviser V. Jeevakumar said in a release here on Thursday.

People of Cauvery delta districts of Thanjavur-Tiruvarur oppose the demand to operate the Thiruchendur express which is running on the main line now.

“If they want they can operate another train to Thiruchendur on chord line."

But they should not try to shift the train running on main line to chord line, thus depriving a facility enjoyed by people of the delta districts.

The eleven MPs can fight for operating train on Nagapattinam-Velankanni track, completion of broad gauge from Nagore to Karaikal, new Ariyalur-Thanjavur line and new Karaikal-Mayiladuthurai line, the association said.
