Anna Nagar tower park renovation by August

Open air theatre, meditation platforms, play area planned

Chennai: The renovation of one of the city’s largest parks – Dr. Visveswaraya Tower Park in Anna Nagar – will be completed in August, Mayor M. Subramanian said here on Saturday.

The sprawling park, which spans 15.35-acres, would have new facilities to encourage cultural and sports activities in it.

An open air theatre, yoga and meditation platforms, visitors’ seating spaces, cricket pitch, children’s play area and walkways would be developed inside the park.

Parking facilities and toilets would also be provided.

Chennai Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni and Mr. Subramanian on Saturday discussed the developments proposed, according to the design submitted by consultancy firm Cheralathan Associates.

The plan was displayed at the park.

To cost Rs.6.2 crore

The entire renovation project would cost about Rs.6.2 crore.

The water fountains in the park would be installed in such a way that those passing by the park would also be able to get a clear view of them.

Mr.Subramanian said that several parks, including Thiru-Vi-Ka park in Shenoy Nagar, Nesapakkam park and Ashok Nagar park, have been improved recently.

A sum of Rs. 33 crore had been spent on renovation and development of these green spaces over the last two years, he said.
