Andhra Pradesh student tops VIT entrance examination

VELLORE: Venkata Vijay Ventrapragada of Visakhapatnam bagged the first rank in the VIT Engineering Entrance Examinations (VITEEE) 2008 conducted by the VIT University in 58 cities on April 19. He secured 85.83 per cent. Andhra Pradesh candidates bagged five out of the top 10 ranks in the examination. The second and third ranks went to Pallavi Agrahari of Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Digumarthi Surya Pavan Anirudh of Kakinada (A.P.), both of whom got 85 per cent.

Briefing newspersons about the VITEEE-2008 results here on Thursday, G. Viswanathan, Chancellor, said that candidates who wrote the examination could download the results from the following five web sites from 6 a.m. on May 9: >www.vit.ac.in, >www.bharathedu.com, >www.globalinfowings.com, >www.indiaresults.com and >www.dinamalar.com. Simultaneously, the results would be communicated to the mobile numbers of the respective candidates through SMS.

The Chancellor said that out of the 1,38,008 candidates who registered for VITEEE-2008, 1,33,182 (96.8 per cent) appeared for the examinations. Out of the 10,000 candidates from Tamil Nadu who registered for the examinations, 9,628 appeared. But no Tamil Nadu candidate was among the top 10 rank-holders. The other rank-holders are as follows: Fourth rank - A. Sanjeeva Rao of Hyderabad; 5th rank - Karnati Satya Deep of Kakinada; 6th rank - Prashant Chhabra of Hanumangarh town (Rajasthan); 7th rank - P. Keerthi Kundana of Bhilai (Chhattisgarh); 8th rank - Parisineti Charan Deep of Vijayawada (A.P.); 9th rank - Animesh Gupta of Kanpur (U.P.); 10th rank - Rishi Kumar Mangal of Sheopur (Madhya Pradesh).

Sekar Viswanathan, Pro-Chancellor-1, said that counselling would be held only for candidates who had obtained ranks up to 6,000. It would be held in four batches. Counselling for the first batch (ranks 1-2000) would be held on June 4, for the second batch (rank 2001-3500) on June 6, third batch (3501-5000) on June 9 and fourth batch (5001-6000) on June 11. After seeing their results on the web site, the candidates should attend the counselling on the specified dates as per their ranking. No separate communication would be sent to them.

The Chancellor said that from this academic year, the VIT University has decided to offer a seat, with 50 per cent tuition fee waiver and free hostel accommodation and free boarding to one boy and one girl each who got the highest marks in the Plus Two public examinations.

It would be for the boys and girls from the rural government higher secondary schools in each of the following seven districts - Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Kancheepuram, and who appeared for the VITEEE. In this category, seven boys and seven girls will get seats and the concession. In deserving cases, 100 per cent tuition fee concession would be given, he said.
