All set for temple samprokshanam

As a prelude to the Mahasamprokshanam of Sri Rajagopalaswami Temple here, Kalasams will be fitted to all the gopurams and vimanas of the temple from Thursday.

A total of 108 kalasams will be fitted, according to M. Chandrasekaran, Tiruvarur District Collector.

He saw the Kalasams kept ready for at the temple on Thursday. The gopurams and vimanas which have kalasams made of clay will now be replaced by copper and gold plated ones. According to Subbaiah, Chairman of the renovation committee and Thambi Dikshithar, Temple Bhattacharya , 11 gold plated kalasams will be fitted on the main Rajagopuram. Copper Kalasams will be fitted on 15 gopurams and 17 vimanas. The Kalasams vary in size from one and half feet to seven and a half feet.

The Collector inspected the multicoloured gopurams and vimanas and also the Yagasala. Thambi Dikshithar said 36 yaga goundams are kept ready for the event.

Nearly 200 Bhattacharyas and vedic scholars will take part in the Yagasala pujas. Mahasamprokshanam will be held on August 22 at 8 a.m. Yagasala pujas begin on August 20. Poorvanga puja will be performed on August 19. The temple has been renovated at Rs. 170 lakh out of which Rs. 70 lakh is from the donors.

The Collector has directed the police to make security arrangements.
