SALEM: The Salem unit of Janata Dal (Secular) has urged the District Collector to convene an all party meeting to sort out the problems in the supply of drinking water in Salem city.

A majority of the wards in the city are being supplied with water once in eight days.

The Salem Corporation has not initiated any efforts to solve the problems in its drinking water distribution network.

Party members passed a resolution to this effect at a meeting held here recently, District President G.

Velayutham said in a press release. Members also decided to submit a petition to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who was scheduled to visit Salem shortly.

In another resolution, members urged the district administration to eliminate the middlemen in the Public Distribution System (PDS).

They also wanted the government to ensure adequate supply of medicines to Salem Government Medical College Hospital.

They demanded the hospital administration to maintain the toilets and the hospital surroundings neat and tidy.
