SALEM: About 12,000 farmers in Salem district were given financial assistance for the construction of recharge structures under the scheme for Artificial Recharge of Ground Water through Dug Wells.

The district administration identified 24,000 farmers in the district so far for constructing recharge structures in their lands.

A sum of Rs. 4.47 crore was released so far covering about 12,000 farmers till date. The remaining farmers would be covered under the scheme shortly.

Farmers who received financial assistance under the scheme were asked to complete the construction of artificial recharge structure by the end of December this year. The Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, granted Rs. 40 crore for the implementation of the scheme in Salem district. Small and marginal farmers are being given Rs. 4,000 as assistance while others Rs. 2,000 under the scheme.

Collector J. Chandrakumar asked the farmers who were yet to submit application for receiving financial assistance under the scheme to submit the forms with necessary documents to the respective village administrative officers.
