KARUR: Adopt micro-irrigation management techniques to bring down dependence on water for irrigation and also to step up profits, Collector T.N. Venkatesh told farmers here recently.

He urged them to make full use of Government subsidy and credit being extended for establishing drip irrigation and other such ventures.

Mr. Venkatesh said that the subsidy worth Rs. 4.5 lakh would be given to 23 coconut growers in the district.

New and existing coconut growers could make use of the credit. A sum of Rs. 11,500 would be extended as subsidy for a hectare for coconut growers to establish drip irrigation system.

This was found to be very much viable, he said.

A farmer could get subsidy for up to five hectares.

During the past year, micro-irrigation management systems were established in 54.5 hectare of coconut groves against the target of 50.9 hectares, benefiting 23 farmers, for whom subsidy would be disbursed shortly, he said.
