Humaneness Week observance inaugurated

Udhagamandalam: Many of the public welfare schemes being implemented in Tamil Nadu owe their origin to the humane outlook of the Government led by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, said the Khadi Board Minister, K. Ramachandran, while inaugurating the observance of Humaneness Week here on Saturday.

Pointing out that the first day of the Humaneness Week was also being observed as Girl Child Day, he said that people should acknowledge the increasing role women were playing in ensuring the economic well being of their families. There were now six lakh self help groups in the State. The District Revenue Officer, T. Abraham, who presided, said that no one should be deprived of their rights. Practices such as the two-tumbler system which divided people should be put an end to. The Chairman, Nilgiris District Agricultural Marketing Committee, R. Ilangovan, the vice-chairman, Udhagamandalam Municipal Council, spoke.
