Tata Crucible Business Quiz for Chennai region held
TCS team walks away with the first prize of Rs.60,000
Quiz demanded lateral thinking, brand recall ability
Chennai: What connects Andhra Bank, Mico Bosch, Tata BP Solar and Krishnadevaraya? This was one question that stumped even the finalists at the Tata Crucible Business Quiz held here on Saturday.
One hand shot up in the packed hall and a member of the audience was ready with the answer: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. The connection was that Andhra Bank issues tokens for the purchase of Tirupati ladoos, Mico Bosch manufactured the automated ladoo production machine at the temple, Tata installed solar water heaters for pilgrims and Vijayanagar king Krishnadevaraya minted coins that bore the image of the Tirupati deity.
The Tata quiz for the Chennai region demanded plenty of lateral thinking, brand recall ability, speed and knowledge of business trivia.
The winners
N.A. Venkatesh and R. Jayakanthan of Tata Consultancy Services walked away with the prize of Rs.60,000. They will compete with the regional winners at the national-level quiz in Mumbai.
In the ‘external track’ quiz (for teams other than Tata’s companies), KPMG’s Ramakrishnan and Dharmendra beat teams from Wipro, Irevna, CTS and Citi Bank. The team will also participate in the national quiz.
Landmark CEO Hemu Ramaiah gave away the prizes.
Quizmaster Giri Balasubramanian, nicknamed Pickbrain, kept up the energy level throughout the programme.
Range of questions
Questions ranged from the bizarre (What is deadvertising? Answer: To promote and promote political causes by death, eg. suicide bombing) to the funny (What is alcologic? Ans: Reasoning spouted after getting drunk).
Those who answered audience questions won Fastrack sunglasses, watches and flash drives.
