Finalists of Mr. and Ms. IT contest contribute Rs.2.15 lakh

CHENNAI: Finalists of the Mr. and Ms. IT contest contributed Rs. 2.15 lakh and 200 bags of rice to Amaithi Illam in Villivakkam here on Saturday.

The husband and wife team of Pon Victor and Unice Victor have been running Amaithi Illam, home to 60 children, for more than a decade. Ms. Victor had been abandoned as a baby and was handed over to an orphanage by a kind-hearted lorry driver. Since childhood, it had been her aim to run an orphanage, Mr. Victor said.

The children address the couple as ‘appa’ and ‘amma’. Thrilled to make generous new friends, they were dressed for the occasion. Those performing welcome dances were resplendent with lipstick, glittering crowns and bangles or freshly pressed T-shirts and jeans.

As daylight faded, the home glowed with the light of scores of diyas lit by the children, making the day a Karthikai to remember.

Mr. and Ms. IT is intended to ‘identify techno icons who will be the perfect blend of intellect, sensitivity, spunk and vivacious personalities’, according to a press release. Hundred semi-finalists were chosen after an online personality test, and participated in a two-minute talent round, following which 32 finalists were shortlisted.

Concept art, cookery and mentoring are other activities the finalists would be part of before the finals on November 30.
