A day to remember

VARIETY FARE: Students presenting a skit on environment and pollution.

Actor Manorama made the day for scores of students at what would have otherwise been a simple school function.

The veteran comedienne did not disappoint the children and their parents who attended the function organised at Everwin Matriculation Higher Secondary School.

The star keenly watched and appreciated the three hours of variety entertainment dished out by the school students.

Ms. Manorama, in particular, enjoyed the dance number from the film `Patti Solai Thattadhe' (the song was sung by her) presented by a girl from the school. Later, addressing the students and teachers, Ms. Manorama said she was not a teacher (though young actors could take a lesson or two from her performances). "I did not study much. When I see the parents and teachers here, I am happy to be a part of them".

On her coming to know that only women were employed as teachers here, Manorama said only a mother knew what a child wanted. It was appropriate that the teachers here were women, she said.

Principal B. Purshothaman conferred the `Ever Winning Woman award' on Manorama on the occasion of International Women's Day.
