DHARMAPURI: The police have seized 700 litres of rectified spirit from a car at Kurinjinagar check post, near Thoppur, on Dharmapuri-Salem road on Saturday.

Superintending of Police Najmul Hoda told The Hindu that that was the sixth major catch in the last two months in Dharmapuri district. During the same period, the special police team seized three vehicles that transported ganja.

On a tip off, the special team headed by Inspector N. Suryamurthy comprising head constables R. Sadasivam, S. Vadivel, S. Sakthivel and G. Devarajan intercepted the car and found the rectified spirit in plastic cans. Driver Ashraf and Vipin, who was travelling with him, both from Thrissur in Kerala, confessed that they were taking the spirit from Tumkur in Karnataka to an unknown destination in Kerala.

The police have seized the car and arrested the duo.

The SP congratulated the team and gave away cash prizes. Further investigation is on.
