Job fair organised exclusively for girl students of polytechnic colleges

TIRUCHI: The two-day job fair that culminated at the Padmabhushan Sri N. Ramaswami Ayyar Memorial Polytechnic for Girls here on Tuesday was unique for reasons more than one.

For the first time, a job fair at the regional-level was organised exclusively for girls of polytechnic colleges by the placement cell of the host institution as part of the Canada-India Institutional Cooperation Project (CIICP).

And the 20 per cent success rate was quite fulfilling for the organisers. Of the 350 participants from 10 polytechnic colleges in Tiruchi, Perambalur, Pudukkottai and Thanjavur districts, about 70 were appointed by the recruiters: Harihar Alloys Castings (P) Ltd., Tiruchi; Dhanadhanya Dwellings (P) Ltd., Tiruchi; UNI Produire Engg (P) Ltd., Tiruchi; EID Parry (I) Ltd., Pudukkottai; DSM Soft Ltd., Tiruchi; and Indian Printed Circuit Board Association, Bangalore.

The successful candidates were drawn from seven branches: Electronics and Communication Engineering; Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Computer Engineering; Civil Engineering; Information Technology; Sugar Technology; and Instrumentation and Control.

Unique initiative

Presenting the appointment letters to the successful candidates, R. Panchapakesan, Managing Trustee, Padmabhushan Sri N. Ramaswami Ayyar Educational Complex, Tiruchi, expressed happiness over the response for the unique initiative, saying that women empowerment can happen by creating job opportunities alongwith imparting education.

The Principal In-Charge of the Polytechnic College R.S. Kala observed that the presence of women in industries would accelerate social transformation.
