SALEM: Police personnel seized 600 bags of rice meant for supply under the Public Distribution System and arrested a person in Mallur near here on Thursday night.
On information, a team of personnel conducted vehicle check on Salem- Namakkal main road and intercepted a lorry and two vans.
On seeing the police, the drivers fled the spot after bringing the vehicles to a halt. The personnel chased and arrested Elaiyappan (38) and seized the rice.
The police arrested Marimuthu (54) and Seenivasan (25) on Friday.
In the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the PDS rice was being smuggled to Karnataka. Meanwhile, revenue officials seized 32 bags of PDS rice found hoarded in a house in Poolampatti near here.
Acting on a tip off, the officials raided the house.
