50 sovereigns of gold jewels; three passports missing

VIRUDHUNAGAR: At least 50 sovereigns of gold jewels and three passports were missing from a house at Azhagiyanallur near Aruppukottai on Monday.

The police said that two daughters of one Jayaraman had come to the village from Singapore to attend a marriage.

When all the inmates had gone out, one of the daughters, who was present at the house, went to a relative's house in the neighbourhood leaving the door without locking around noon.

On return, the inmates found the valuables missing from the almirah, the keys of which were left near it, the Superintendent of Police, D. Krishnamurthi, said.

He accompanied the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Madurai Range), Sandeep Mittal, to the scene of crime.

The Mallankinaru police are investigating.
