MADURAI: As many as 446 members, including 141 women, of Tamil Nadu Tawheeth Jamaath were taken into custody when they assembled near the RMS Road here on Tuesday with a view to picketing the railway junction in support of their demands.

The members, led by Rahim, secretary of Madurai district unit, were demanding the retrieval of documents related to the Ayodhya dispute that were reported missing.

They wanted the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government to take action against officials responsible for the theft of the documents.

They were released in the evening.
