36 middle schools upgraded: Collector

Four more upgraded into higher secondary schools

TIRUVARUR: Thirty-six panchayat union elementary schools in the district have been upgraded into middle schools during this academic year and the Government has allocated Rs.3.21 crore for construction of three classrooms and other facilities in each school, said M. Chandrasekaran, Collector, here on Tuesday.

Talking to media persons, the Collector said that the Education Department was making special efforts for admitting rural children in the schools and creating awareness among the people under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme.

He pointed out that people in the rural areas had appreciated the district administration for its efforts to upgrade 36 elementary schools into middle schools.

The Collector said that the panchayat union middle school at Thiruveezhimazhalai had been upgraded into Government high school from this academic year.

Similarly, four high schools, Government high school at Ennakudi, Government girls high school at Thirumakottai, Government high school at Pamani and Municipal urban bank high school at Mannargudi in the district have been upgraded into higher secondary school from this year.

A.S. Radhakrishnan, Chief Educational Officer, Tiruvarur, told The Hindu, that the people of Thiruveezhimazhalai, Ennakudi, Tirumakottai, Pamani and Mannargudi had thanked the Collector for making special efforts to upgrade the schools into high and higher secondary schools.

He said that free textbooks and uniforms were being distributed to the students in various parts of the district.
