300 litres of rectified spirit seized

Pondicherry Dec. 25. A team of officials of the Excise Department of Pondicherry raided a house at Kuruvinatham near here today and seized 300 litres of rectified spirit and also a barrel containing 100 litres of denatured spirit meant to be used for preparing spurious liquor.

An official source said the Deputy Collector (Excise), R. Anbalagan, led the raid on the premises. The team broke open the locked room and seized two bags of chemicals, besides the rectified and denatured spirit. One person was arrested in this connection. Full-fledged investigation is on and the excise authorities intensified the probe to locate the persons who stocked the material in the house. The team was on intensive combing operations against illicit distillation of arrack in the Union Territory.
