3 poll observers arriving today

THANJAVUR: Three poll observers _ Ajit Kumar Tripathi, Krishan Kumar and Salman Khan _ appointed by the Election Commission for Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency will arrive here on Friday, said Collector M. S. Shanmugham who is the returning officer for the constituency.

He told presspersons here on Thursday that Mr. Ajit Kumar would be in charge of Thanjavur and Thiruvaiyaru Assembly segments and be available on mobile number 94421-40121. Krishan Kumar will be incharge of Orathanadu and Mannargudi Assembly segments and his mobile number is 94423-50121. Salman Khan will be incharge of Pattukottai and Peravurani Assembly segments and people can contact him over the mobile number 94425-40121.

People who want to lodge their complaints regarding election process can contact the observers over the phone.

The Collector said that 225 micro observers have been appointed for the constituency. These Central Government officials will be posted at sensitive polling booths and they will be working under the control of poll observers. They will convey their observations in the booths to the poll observers.

Forty eight booths in the constituency have been identified as hyper sensitive, 433 as more sensitive and 234 as sensitive.

The constituency has been divided into 146 zones and sector magistrates have been appointed for these zones. They will take care of transporting election materials including Electronic Voting Machines to the 1757 polling booths.

A total of 8852 persons have been selected as booth officers. Training for these persons will start on April 29. Three training programmes will be conducted for these personnel.
