21 held for bid to show black flag to Minister

Thanjavur: Police arrested 21 persons belonging to Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Tamil Nadu Kudiyurimai Padukappu Naduvam at Thirupanandal in the district on Sunday when they tried to show black flag to Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Mani Shankar Aiyer who was on a tour in that area. They said the black flag demonstration was to protest against the Centre’s alleged failure to protect Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Students end fast

Tamil University students, who were on relay hunger strike from January 30 here, demanding ceasefire in Lanka, withdrew their fast on Sunday as seven of them swooned in the fast pandal. They started the hunger strike on the University campus. Following the order from the State Government to close colleges, they were asked to go out of the campus on Saturday. They continued the fast outside the campus. Following the swooning of seven of them, they discontinued their fast.
