2 goldsmiths duped

CHENNAI, APRIL 24. Two goldsmiths were duped of 1.25 kg of gold by men posing as police officers in the city on Saturday night.

The police said Balaji and Venketesan, hailing from Coimbatore, were returning on a cycle rickshaw to board a train when two persons posing as police officers intercepted the vehicle near the central station in an auto rickshaw. They asked Mr. Balaji who was carrying the bag containing gold to accompany them to Vandalur police station for an enquiry. On reaching Vandalur, they took him to an isolated spot, roughed him up and escaped with the valuable. A complaint was filed at the Elephant Gate police station.
