For carrying out a survey of huts under a housing scheme in Tuticorin district

Tuticorin: To implement the Kalaignar Housing Scheme in the district, Collector G. Prakash has convened a meeting here on Friday.

With the objective of improving the living conditions of the economically deprived society, the State Government has taken this initiative, according to Collector G. Prakash.

The people living in huts would be identified and on providing valid documents the huts would be converted into concrete houses.

The programme was attended by master trainers, who, in turn, would train a team of officials for carrying out a survey of huts in all the blocks in the district.

Sixteen teams of master trainers had been formed. The second phase of the training for master trainers would be held on March 23. The training for surveyors would be imparted in two phases from March 17, 18 and March 25, 26 in their respective panchayat unions.

Mr. Prakash issued guidelines on the scheme to deal with its mechanism effectively. Defining the framework for the proposed survey, he said the officials from the Department of Rural Development and Revenue officials would be involved in overseeing the prospects of survey.

Meanwhile he asked the officials concerned to expedite the task assigned to them for a speedy completion. Since ample time had been allotted to carry out the inspection, the officials should finish the task at the earliest. He also exuded confidence that Tuticorin would be the first district in the state to complete the survey. A team comprising Village Administrative Officer, Panchayat Assistant and Makkal Nala Paniyalargal will take stock of the housing situation in all blocks.
