12 children injured in school fire discharged

KUMBAKONAM, AUG. 14. After nearly a month, 12 children, injured in the July 16 school fire accident at Kumbakonam were discharged from the Government Hospital here today.

The children were discharged on medical opinion and also after getting consent from their parents, said J. Radhakrishnan, Thanjavur Collector. The Collector enquired about the health of the children and saw them off from the hospital.

Later he told presspersons that the children would be admitted in other schools in the town.

V.D. Murugesan, Deputy Director of Health, Rajendran, Superintendent of the Hospital and Murugan, Revenue Divisional Officer, were present when the children were discharged. The children said they were happy and lucky to return home after the fateful accident. They thanked the doctors and nurses for providing them the best treatment.

Textbooks and notebooks were given to the children by the Education department and fruits and biscuits were given by non-governmental organisations. The discharged children are Saravanan, Ajithkumar, Vijay, Vishnu Priya, Anand and Surya — all studying in standard IV and Susai Mary, Kamali, Ramesh, Devi, Vigneswaran and Naveena — all standard III students.

According to doctors, six more children who were injured in the accident are undergoing treatment in hospitals in the State and they will also be discharged soon.
