100th Dog Show on cards

Udhagamandalam: The 100th Dog Show of the South India Kennel Club (SIKC) will be a grand gala event, said its president D.Krishnamurthy here on Friday.

In a press note issued, he said the show would be conducted between May 9 and 11 on the Government Arts College ground.

The SIKC would become the third kennel club in the country to hold the 100th show.

On the opening day, the SIKC’s Obedience Tests, 12th speciality show of the German Shepherd Dog Club of India, Coimbatore chapter, the Boxer Speciality Show of the Indian Boxer Club and the Retriever Speciality Show of the Labrador Retriever Club of India would be held.

On May 10, two shows of the Madras Canine Club would be conducted. On the concluding day, the SIKC’s 100th and 101st Championship Dog Shows would be held.

Pointing out that about 50 breeds would be on show, he said that premier dogs in each breed were expected to vie for honours.

The number of entries was expected to cross 500. The dogs would be grouped under: Toy, hound, gun dog, terrier, utility, working dog and pastoral.

The winning dogs in each category would figure in the final line up. Expensive silver prizes were up for grabs.

Among those who had donated trophies were The Hindu, the Maharaja of Mysore, the Maharaja of Baria and the Maharaja of Bhavnagar.
