Stage set for third Odissi festival

BHUBANESWAR: The stage is set for the inauguration of the third international Odissi Dance Festival at the newly constructed open-air auditorium on Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya premises on Tuesday morning. It is being hosted by US-based cultural organisation Indian Performing Arts Promotions in association with the Central and State Governments.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the five-day event that will showcase performances by dancers and dance troupes from 15 countries besides eight seminars and workshops.

Eight gurus and six Padma awardee dancers are scheduled to perform at Rabindra Mandap indoor auditorium during the inaugural day. The gurus include Mayadhar Raut, Ramani Ranjan Jena, Gangadhar Pradhan, Durga Charan Ranbir, Sankar Behera, Rabindra Atibudhi, Bichitrananda Swain and Ramli Ibrahim. The dancers are Ileana Citaristi, Ranjana Gauhar, Minati Mishra, Kumkum Mohanty, Madhavi Mudgal and Sonal Mansingh.
