Parade route finalised

JAIPUR: The parade at the State-level function marking the Republic Day will leave Sawai Man Singh Stadium here this year for the first time and wind its way through the roads of Pink City to finish at the historic Albert Hall.

The ceremonial march will proceed from the stadium after the Governor, Pratibha Patil, unfurls the national tricolour and takes salute. The Rajasthan Government has stated that no change in the venue of the function was being made and the parade would march on roads to `enhance people's participation'.

There were reports earlier that the Rajasthan Cricket Association -- which has been entrusted with the management of the ground recently -- had requested the State Government to shift the venue elsewhere as the parade would render the ground unfit for sports activities.

A meeting, presided over by the Secretary, General Administration, C.M. Meena, was convened here over the week-end to finalise the route of the parade.

Senior Government officials attending the meeting said a large number of tableaux and cultural items, in addition to physical drill of schoolchildren, would form part of the parade.

The parade will start from Amar Jawan Jyoti -- outside Sawai Man Singh Stadium -- and traverse Ambedkar Circle, Statue Circle, Paanch Batti, Mirza Ismail Road and New Gate to finally reach Albert Hall.

Tableaux, along with the cultural programmes, are displayed on the Republic Day routinely at the district headquarters across the State every year. This feature is being added to the State-level function
