Jeeva Sathi screened

Continuing with its unique smruti-chhaya series of screening the classics of Odia cinema, Film Journalists' Forum (FJF) of Odisha presented Jeeva Sathi , a film released during 1963, at Jayadev Bhawan.

The President's silver medal winner film of that year, it was the first Odia film to be shot outside the State – in Shimla. A film in black and while that had the story of romance and rebirth, it was produced by Srinibas Paikray and directed by Prabhat Mukherjee while late legendary Balakrushna Dash had scored its music.

Ace actor Sarat Pujari, presently the president of Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi and eminent Odissi dancer Minati Mishra, now living in Switzerland, were the lead pair in the movie.

A number of prominent people associated with the Odia film scene -- Gopal Ghosh, Pranab Patnaik, Amiya Patnaik, Jharana Das, Bina Palit, Asim Basu, Shantanu Mohapatra, Devdas Chhotray, and Gadadhar Puty – were special guests for the evening who inaugurated the event and honoured the personalities who were associated with the film – producer Srinibas Paikray, actors Sarat Pujari and Niranjan Satapathy, lyricists Gurukrushna Goswami and Narayan Prasad Singh and copyright holder Chandan Biswal. A booklet on the film was also released on the occasion.

The producer, actors, and lyricists recollected their experiences of working with the production much to the cheer of the large number of film enthusiasts who had gathered to watch the film that was made nearly half a century ago and meet its cast and crew.
