Haryana enhances sports budget

Sports policy to be announced soon; budget more than doubled

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government will unveil its Sports Policy shortly and it has already enhanced this year's budget for promotion of sports from Rs. 30.5 crores to Rs. 70.5 crores. This was announced at a function at the Raj Bhavan here on Monday.

The Governor, A.R.Kidwai, gave away Bhim Awards and State Sports Awards to 44 outstanding sportspersons. He said that at present 586 players were being imparted coaching at 31 sports nurseries under `Catch them young programme'. He appreciated the decision of the State Government to increase the budget for promotion of sports.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda complimented the award winners on behalf of the people of the State.

As there was no dearth of sports talent in Haryana, the State Government had decided to groom the sportspersons and provide them ample facilities.

Mini Stadiums would be set up in a village of every block and a modern Sports Complex would come up in Rohtak.

Also, a multi-purpose hall would be constructed at Moti Lal Nehru Sports School in Rai.

Mr. Hooda also announced plans to reserve 120 posts for outstanding sportspersons of the State in the ongoing recruitment to fill up vacancies in the Police Department.

The Education Minister, Phool Chand Mullana, said Haryana was the first State where free bus facility had been provided to the recipients of National Youth Awards.
