Outgoing Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare was accorded ceremonial farewell at Raj Bhavan on Sunday.

Mr. Bhandare took over as Governor on August 21, 2007. His tenure ended on August 20, 2012.

However, Mr. Bhandare continued in his post since there was delay in appointment of the new Governor. His successor S.C. Jamir is scheduled to arrive here on Tuesday, Raj Bhavan sources said. In the morning, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik arrived at Raj Bhavan to bid adieu to the outgoing Governor. The two leaders exchanged pleasantries.

Later, Mr. Bhandare was given guard of honour. Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik, Director-General of Police Prakash Mishra, Home Secretary U.N. Behera and Commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Sunil Roy met the Governor and wished him.

“This was one of the happiest experiences of my life. Odisha is beautiful and people of the State are loving and affectionate. The State is culturally richest and people have music and dance in their heart. So living with them was a great occasion,” Mr. Bhandare said describing his tenure as the Governor.

“I could do whatever I could for increase in literacy, particularly for children and women. We have 45 lakh women in self-help groups and we are marching ahead,” he said.
