U.S. Consul General calls on Lt. Governor

He met the Chief Minister separately

PUDUCHERRY: Andrew T. Simkin, U.S. Consul General in Chennai on Friday called on Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh and Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam separately.

In a release, Officer on Special Duty to the Lieutenant Governor J. P Singh said it was a courtesy call. The Consul General and Lieutenant Governor exchanged greetings.

The Consul General mentioned about the rich culture of India and he appreciated the efforts of the government in conserving the distinct heritage of Puducherry.

The Consul General stated that U.S. and India shared common values and interest. Both countries have immense potential for working together in the fields of education, tourism, trade and commerce.

The countries face common threat of terrorism and with joint efforts it would be possible to overcome this “global menace,” the release said quoting the Consul General.
