Armed policemen were deployed at the village to maintain calm

BERHAMPUR: Two persons were killed in a group clash at Phasidi village under Khallikote police station in Ganjam district on Saturday.

It all started at around 9 am. A person named Ganga Patra was driving a bike with Ramulu Patra sitting behind him. Near the village a group of his rivals threw a crude bomb at Ganga. The bomb blasted and injured him. Ramulu however escaped unhurt and ran away from the spot. But the rivals of Ganga hacked him to death at the spot with swords.

Ramulu informed supporters of Ganga at the village of the murder. They got together with crude bombs and swords to make retaliatory attack on the group that had killed Ganga. They searched for Jogi Patra, who, according to them, was behind this attack. Suspecting Jogi was hiding at the house of his brother, Guni Patra, they threw crude bombs inside the house. The bomb blasts injured Guni seriously. Although he was taken to the Khallikote hospital he could not be saved.

Following the incident police team led by circle inspector of Purushottampur rushed to the spot. Armed policemen were deployed at the village.
