Trust awards announced

CUTTACK: Eminent litterateur and researcher Krushna Charan Behera has been selected to receive Sahitya Bharati Samman-2009 for his contribution to Oriya literature. The award being given every year by Gangadhar Rath Foundation Trust carries a cash award of Rs. 1 lakh, a filigree memento of Konark temple and a citation.

Announcing the names of all award winners of the trust here on Wednesday, its president Jayanta Rath said that the awards would be conferred on all the winners at a special function to be held at Kala Vikash Kendra here on March 14.

“State Culture Minister Devi Prasad Mishra would confer the honours on the winners,” Mr. Rath said. He further announced that Sukumar Mitra, eminent child specialist, was selected to receive Dr. Gangadhar Rath Smaraki Samman-2009. The award introduced last year was conferred on former Chief Justice of India Ranganath Mishra.

Besides, the trust also decided to honour poet Mamata Das with Bhanuji Rao Samman-2009 which carries a cash prize of Rs. 25,000.

Dr. Rath further said that Dr. Gangadhar Rath’s last book ‘Bharatare British Raj’ which has been translated into English by Ashok Kumar Mohanty of Berhampur University titled ‘British Raj in India’ would be released at the award giving ceremony next month.
