Truckers threaten to go on strike again

Jalandhar: Threatening to go on a strike again, truckers on Saturday asked the government to implement the agreement they had reached with the Centre nearly two weeks back by February 16.

“The government had sought eight weeks time, but we know that in the end of February, poll code of conduct will be implemented for Parliamentary elections and there will be virtually no government.

“Hence, we hereby give an ultimatum to the Union government to implement the agreement by February 16, otherwise we will be forced to adopt the path of strike,” AIMTC President Charan Singh Lohara told reporters here.

On January 5, truckers had begun an indefinite strike, which was called off eight days later on January 12 after reaching an agreement with the Centre. PTI
