‘Recasting of toppers list putting strain on tender minds’

BSE should have re-evaluated my scripits, he says

We will return the mementoes received by our son: mother

BERHAMPUR: The errors in evaluation of answer sheets and the frequent changes in the toppers’ list by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) is putting severe strain on the tender minds of talented students.

The parents of Bimal Prasad Panda, the earlier declared State topper of the matriculation examination conducted by the BSE from the city urged the State Government to order for a Crime Branch investigation into the reasons for the evaluation and tabulation errors of the BSE. Bimal remained topper for 49 days. As per the results declared in June he was topper in the State. But on Wednesday the BSE came up with a ‘corrected’ list of top 100 students in the matriculation examination. In this list Bimal came down to second position. It was a shock for him.

“I was devastated. How can I forget the numerous occasions where I was honoured as State topper,” said Bimal. He said before declaring the new toppers list in which he was placed in second position, the BSE should have reevaluated his answer sheets as he has the confidence that he would get more marks in many papers.

Pradip Kumar Panda, father of Bimal, said such callous attitude of the BSE towards the mental state of talented young students should be condemned. He wanted the Government to initiate investigation into the examination and evaluation procedure of the BSE. Most devastated was the mother of Bimal.

She said she was trying to keep her cool to save Bimal from depression. “We will return all the certificates and mementos awarded to Bimal during last 49 days certifying him as topper,” she said. Mr Panda said the BSE was not taking into consideration the tender mental state of the talented children. “It is just a matter of meeting and release of a list of names but they do not know it can lead to nervous breakdown or severe depression.”
